We Don't Stop at Graduation — Neither Should You
Our career services team works with every graduate — from portfolio review through salary negotiation — until you land a role that matches your skills, ambition, and salary expectations.
Career Preparation Is Not an Afterthought
At too many bootcamps, career support amounts to a PDF resume template emailed on the last day. NorthCode takes a fundamentally different approach. Career preparation is woven into your program from week one — not tacked on after your capstone presentation.
Every student is paired with a dedicated career coach who has direct experience in technical recruiting. These coaches have sat on the other side of the table at companies like Wealthsimple, Hootsuite, and RBC Digital. They know what a hiring manager scans in the first 11 seconds of reviewing a resume, and they know which behavioural questions surface in panel interviews at Canadian enterprise firms versus Series-A startups.
Critically, our career services don't expire. Alumni retain full access to job boards, coaching sessions, and employer introductions for as long as they need them — whether that is their first role or their fourth career move.
Six Pillars of Career Support
Each service is available to all graduates at no additional cost — during your program and after.
Resume & Portfolio Engineering
Your career coach rewrites your resume using quantified impact statements that resonate with applicant tracking systems and human reviewers alike. We also audit your GitHub profile, personal site, and LinkedIn presence to ensure every touchpoint tells a coherent story. Most students go through 4–6 resume iterations before their coach signs off. The goal is not a prettier document — it is a document that converts cold applications into screening calls at a measurably higher rate than whatever you had before.
Mock Interviews
Three rounds minimum: behavioural, technical whiteboard, and system design. Each session is recorded, time-stamped with feedback, and followed by a structured debrief. We simulate the pressure of real hiring loops so interview day feels like a repeat performance.
Employer Introductions
Our network spans over 150 hiring partners — from enterprise banks to seed-stage startups — across Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. We facilitate warm introductions, not mass email blasts. Each introduction is personalised to the company's open roles and your demonstrated strengths.
Salary Negotiation
Most junior developers leave $4,000–$8,000 on the table because they accept the first number. Our coaches role-play negotiation scenarios, benchmark compensation against current market data, and review your offer letter line by line before you sign anything.
Demo Day & Networking
Every cohort culminates in a Demo Day attended by recruiters, CTOs, and alumni. You present your capstone project live, field technical questions, and exchange contact details with decision-makers who are actively hiring. Our last Demo Day drew 42 companies.
From Graduation to Offer Letter
Career coaching follows a structured timeline. Here is what the weeks after your final project look like — step by painstaking step.
-
01
Portfolio Audit (Week 1)
Your coach reviews your GitHub repositories, personal website, LinkedIn profile, and resume. You receive a written brief with specific changes — not vague suggestions. Common fixes include rewriting commit messages for clarity, adding README documentation that explains architectural choices, and replacing generic LinkedIn headlines with role-targeted ones.
-
02
Interview Bootcamp (Weeks 2–3)
Three mock interview sessions — behavioural, technical, and system design — each recorded and debriefed. You practise articulating trade-offs in your capstone project, whiteboard a data structure problem under time pressure, and answer the inevitable "tell me about a time you disagreed with a teammate" without sounding rehearsed.
-
03
Targeted Applications (Weeks 3–8)
Your coach curates a shortlist of 15–25 companies aligned with your track, preferred city, and company-size preference. Warm introductions go out first. For cold applications, we tailor each cover letter and application to the specific role — no copy-paste blasts. You receive a tracking spreadsheet and weekly check-in calls.
-
04
Offer Review & Negotiation (Weeks 6–12)
When offers arrive — and our median graduate receives their first within 67 days — your coach walks through compensation structure, equity vesting, probationary terms, and benefits. They role-play the negotiation call with you until you feel confident asking for what you deserve.

Our employer partnerships are not logos on a slide deck. They are active, reciprocal relationships. Each partner company has a designated NorthCode liaison who shares upcoming headcount, preferred tech stacks, and interview rubrics with our career team quarterly.
When a partner opens a junior developer, data analyst, or security operations role, our team can surface qualified graduates within 48 hours — complete with portfolio links, capstone demos, and a coach's written endorsement. Hiring managers at partner firms tell us this shortens their sourcing cycle by an average of 19 days compared to open job boards.
Partners span every sector: fintech, healthtech, government digital services, e-commerce, enterprise SaaS, and consulting. Geographic coverage includes the Greater Toronto Area, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, and an expanding set of remote-first companies headquartered across the country.
Career Services in Action
"My coach identified that I was underselling my capstone project in applications. She helped me reframe a 'practice app' as a 'real-time inventory management system processing 12,000 SKUs.' That single change tripled my screening call rate. I accepted a front-end role at a logistics startup in Mississauga six weeks after graduation."
James R.
Full-Stack Graduate, Toronto
"I had an offer for $58,000. My career coach role-played the negotiation three times and showed me comparable salary data for cloud engineers in Vancouver. I asked for $67,000 with a signing bonus. They countered at $65,000 plus $2,500 for professional development. I would never have asked without that preparation."
Amira N.
Cloud Infrastructure Graduate, Vancouver
Problem: Darnell had worked as a restaurant manager for 9 years and lacked any professional connections in technology.
Approach: His coach arranged 5 informational interviews with hiring managers at partner firms and coached him on translating hospitality leadership skills into tech-relevant language.
Outcome: Hired as a QA analyst at a healthcare SaaS company in Ottawa 52 days after completing the Cybersecurity Operations track.

Your Career Coaches
Every coach on our team has spent years inside technical recruiting before joining NorthCode. They know what works because they have made the hiring decisions themselves.
Rachel P.
Head of Career Services (CHRP)
Rachel spent 7 years in technical recruiting at two of Canada's largest banks before joining NorthCode in 2022. She built the employer partnership program from scratch — growing it from 38 to over 150 companies. She is known for her blunt, specific feedback on resumes; graduates either love or fear her red-pen sessions, and they all thank her later.
Kevin S.
Senior Career Coach
Kevin worked as a talent acquisition lead at a mid-size SaaS company in Waterloo for 5 years, personally conducting over 1,200 technical screening calls. He specialises in coaching career-changers who feel imposter syndrome acutely — his approach involves dissecting every "I'm not qualified" belief with concrete evidence from your project work. He joined NorthCode in 2023.
Tanya M.
Career Coach, Western Canada
Tanya is based in Vancouver and covers our growing alumni network in British Columbia and Alberta. Before NorthCode, she ran the graduate placement programme at a polytechnic college for 4 years, achieving an 89% placement rate. She has a particular talent for salary negotiation coaching — one of her graduates negotiated a $9,000 bump on their first offer in 2025.
