Candidate Profile

What We Look For in Applicants

NorthCode does not filter by GPA, alma mater, or years of experience. We look for three specific traits that predict success in intensive technical training.

Curiosity

You ask "how does this work?" more often than most people around you. You have spent time tinkering with spreadsheets, building a personal website, or automating a task at your current job — even if you did not finish. That restless urge to understand systems is the single strongest predictor of bootcamp success we have found over four years of admissions data.

Persistence

Immersive programs are mentally demanding. A typical week involves 40–60 hours of focused work, and you will hit bugs that take an entire afternoon to resolve. We screen for evidence that you have pushed through difficult learning curves before — in any domain. Career changers who retrained once, athletes who trained through injury, parents who studied while raising children: these are the profiles that thrive.

Commitment

A half-engaged student slows down the entire cohort. During your admissions conversation, we will ask about your availability, support system, and financial plan. Applicants who have thought through childcare, work handoffs, and study schedules are the ones who graduate on time. We would rather defer your start by one cohort than set you up for an incomplete.

Step by Step

The Admissions Process

From application to acceptance, the entire process takes about 10 days. There are no entrance exams, no coding challenges, and no trick questions. Here is exactly what happens.

  1. 01

    Submit Your Application

Complete the short form below — it takes under 15 minutes. We ask for your contact details, program interest, a brief paragraph about why you want to transition into tech, and your preferred cohort start date. No resume or cover letter required at this stage. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to our free prep materials.

  2. 02

    Aptitude Conversation

Within 3 working days, an admissions advisor will schedule a 30-minute video call. This is not a technical interview — we use structured behavioural questions to assess your problem-solving approach, learning habits, and schedule readiness. We also answer every question you have about curriculum, daily structure, and career outcomes. Think of it as a mutual fit assessment.

  3. 03

    Decision & Financing

You will receive our decision within 5 working days of the conversation. Accepted applicants receive a detailed offer letter outlining program dates, tuition, and financing options. We walk you through income share agreements, instalment plans, and scholarship eligibility on a follow-up call if needed. You have 14 days to accept the offer and secure your seat with a refundable deposit.

  4. 04

    Pre-Course Prep & Orientation

Two weeks before your cohort begins, you will get access to our pre-course learning portal — roughly 20 hours of foundational material tailored to your program track. On Day 1, orientation covers campus logistics, Slack etiquette, pairing protocols, and an icebreaker sprint that gets you writing and deploying code before lunch.

Tuition & Financing

Financing That Fits Your Situation

We believe cost should not be the reason someone skips a career change. Every applicant has access to at least one financing pathway — many combine two.

Income Share Agreement (ISA)

Most Popular

Pay nothing upfront. After graduation, once you land a qualifying tech role earning above $40,000 per year, you pay a fixed percentage of your monthly gross income for 24 months. If you do not find qualifying employment, you owe nothing. The ISA is capped at a maximum total repayment — once you hit the cap, payments stop automatically regardless of remaining months. Over 60% of our students choose this option.

Monthly Instalments

Spread tuition across 6 or 12 monthly payments at 0% interest. Payments begin before your program starts, so you enter Day 1 with financial clarity. A small administrative fee applies to the 12-month plan. Available for all program tracks.

Third-Party Education Loans

We partner with Canadian education lenders who offer extended repayment terms of up to 36 months. Interest rates and terms vary by provider and credit profile. Our admissions team can connect you with a lending partner during your financing call.

Merit Scholarships

Each cohort offers 3–5 merit-based scholarships covering 25–50% of tuition. Eligibility is assessed during the admissions conversation based on aptitude and demonstrated financial need. No separate application form — every admitted student is automatically considered.

Upfront Payment Discount

Pay the full tuition before your program starts and receive a 10% early-bird discount. This option works well for applicants using savings, employer sponsorship, or government retraining grants. The discount is applied automatically at checkout.
